Jennifer Von Scurlock, nee Shannon Vaughan, was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma November 1984, the only child of Rick and Deborah Vaughan. At five months old, Von Scurlock's parents divorced and her mother moved with her to Columbus, Ohio. At age eight, Von Scurlock was diagnosed with severe scoliosis and wore a Boston body brace twenty three hours a day for four years. By age twelve, the brace could no longer control her curvature and she was confined to a wheelchair until she underwent a full spinal fusion at age thirteen. Unable to participate in normal childhood activities, Von Scurlock devoted her time to writing "Her Day" a detailed journal in the form of a long running story. At age sixteen, Von Scurlock and her mother moved to East Texas where she graduated from Lindale High school two years later. In 2007, Von Scurlock earned her BA in psychology with a minor in English from the University of Texas at Tyler. During her junior and senior years of college, she interned at CBS 19 in Tyler and then went on to produce the nightly news. After graduation, Von Scurlock married Mark Scurlock and pursued a career in real estate. When the real estate market crashed in 2008, Von Scurlock seized the opportunity to return to her writing roots and began writing short stories and non-fiction articles as well as teaching a program at the University of Texas at Tyler for delinquent freshmen. By 2014, Von Scurlock's first book series, Lady Jenniviere's Quill was published. The popular young reader series has grown to eight books with the ninth expected in November of 2015.
Von Scurlock is currently on a national book tour promoting Lady Jenniviere's Quill. She and Mark live in a 40 ft. motor home and share the space with their two Shih Tzus, Zoie and Mazi, their rescued Great Pyrenees Labrador mix, Jordan and their talking parrot, Story Bird.
